Facebook Has No Direct Competitors, But It “Doesn’t Feel Like” a Monopoly.Hatch: Well, if so, how do you sustain a business model in which users don’t pay for your service? Zuck: ( Blinks.) Senator, we run ads. There will always be a version of Facebook that is free. Is that still your objective? Zuckerberg: Senator, yes. You said back then that Facebook would always be free. Zuckerberg, I remember well your first visit to Capitol Hill back in 2010. What if I don’t want to receive those commercial advertisements? And all of a sudden I start receiving advertisements for chocolate. Nelson: Yesterday when we talked, I gave the relatively harmless example that I’m communicating with my friends on Facebook and indicate that I love a certain kind of chocolate. Grassley: Okay, but right now you have no certainty of whether or not, how much of that’s going on, right? Zuckerberg: ( Blinks.) Grassley: Okay. Chairman, I, I will have my team follow up with you on what information we have. Grassley: I can assume that sitting here today you have no idea, and if I’m wrong on that, you’re able-you are telling me, I think-that you’re able to supply those figures to us, as least as of this point? Zuckerberg: Mr. I can make sure that our team follows up with you on anything about the specific past stats that would be interesting. I don’t have the exact figure how many times we have. Grassley: Have you ever required an audit to ensure the deletion of improperly transferred data? And if so, how many times? Zuckerberg: Mr. Advertisers and developers will never take priority over that as long as I am running Facebook. Zuckerberg: My top priority has always been our social mission of connecting people, building community, and bringing the world closer together.
